Chapter 03 · Formats

2v2 ludo: partner colours finish together or not at all.

2v2 is the format where one strong player cannot save a weak partner. Both teammates have to bring all four tokens home. The match runs twelve to eighteen minutes, and the alliance is the variable that changes everything.

Why the alliance changes the math

In 2v2, a single strong player cannot carry the pot. Both teammates have to finish. That changes the geometry: capture pressure from one team member clears the path for the other, and a stalled token on one side stalls the team even if the partner is racing ahead.

Watch for two tells in a 2v2 match. First, when one team is clearly ahead, the trailing team often gives up cutting and races. Second, when both teams are close, the cutting returns with interest. Read the rule card for the home-column safety rule. Some 2v2 rule cards extend it to seven squares, not five.

Where this comes from

Match lengths, home-column variants, and rake ranges come from the public rule cards on three Indian apps as of August 2026. The alliance-effect framing is editorial and reflects the format's cooperative finish condition.
